If you are morning person, you’ll love to delight the sunny mornings in Merida, also, we invite you to discover our traditional shop Probaditas Yucatecas from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
First of all, we are going to recharge energy having a breakfast at Lonchería “La Lupita”; located inside of the popular Mercado de Santiago
, you’ll find Don Pedro Medina or his staff. They will tell us about the ingredients and the preparation of the traditional Yucatecan dishes while you eat a torta de lechon, or 2 cochinita pibil tacos; or what about a panucho de escabeche (Yucatecan marinade) besides of a salbut de relleno negro (black stuffing) complemented by a fresh water made out of seasonal fruit, mouth-watering?? We bet you are. Any Yucatecan can relate this delicious dish.
At the end, right from his sandwich shop, Don Omar will share with us the elaboration of the handcrafted recado (achiote paste; a type of curry), which is commonly used in the elaboration of those tasty Yucatecan dishes. Don’t miss the opportunity of buying souvenirs while you are the market!
Before continuing with our walkthrough Paseo de Montejo, the guide will talk about the market history, the Cathedral, and the story of old neighborhoods from Merida’s downtown.
Finally, we’ve arrived at our destination: Monumento a la Patria; this is where our trip on Paseo de Montejo starts. During this trip, you’re going to be told the story of how Paseo de Montejo was built, an emblematic and iconic landmark of Merida. And that’s only without mentioning the cornerstone of this amazing avenue: the henequén.
We just simply can’t end this trip without stopping at the well-known and oldest sorbetería in Merida, Helados Colón; one of Merida’s icon made ice-cream. These ice-creams are water-based; coconut, mamey (mammee), soursop and mango are our visitors’ favorite flavors.
You cannot leave Merida without experiencing this charming and contemporary city to bites (in probaditas!). We are waiting for you soon!
